Glazed Donuts Recipe
My children absolutely love to grab a donut from the bakery counter on our trips to the grocery store. It’s a weekly treat for them. During lockdown in South Africa, I decided to teach myself how to make them. My kids love the round ball type ones with a yummy vanilla glaze. After watching some tutorials and reading different recipes, I decided to create my own from different ideas. I think I may have outdone myself, as my husband who is a full-on Foodie, gave me a solid 10/10. The best part about baking is getting your family and kids involved, what better activity than an edible one?
Donuts are so versatile you can change your toppings up. Maybe some melted chocolate dipping or a decadent caramel sauce.
Our glaze has a very similar taste to vanilla fudge….
I’m sure that left your mouth watering!

3 Cups Flour
¼ Cup Sunflower Oil
½ Teaspoon Salt
1 Tablespoon White Sugar
1 ½ Cups Water
1 Sachet Instant Yeast
4 Cups Icing Sugar
1 Cup Milk
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Essence
Pinch of Salt
In a glass add lukewarm water and yeast, give it a little stir and allow to sit and form bubbles for 5 minutes.
In a large bowl mix together all the dry ingredients.
Once the yeast mixture is ready add into the bowl of dried ingredients, add in the oil as well.
Mix together to form a dough.
Remove dough from bowl and knead for 10 minutes.
Return to a clean bowl and allow to rise for 1 hour.
After 1 hour your dough should have risen to at least double, remove from bowl, sprinkle some flour and knead for another 5 minutes. Return to bowl and allow to rise for another hour.
Once risen for the last hour, divide into balls and place onto a baking tray, remember to sprinkle flour on the tray so the dough doesn’t stick to the bottom. Allow the dough balls to rise for 15 minutes.
Heat oil in a pot, once hot fry dough balls for 3-5 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove and allow to cool on a cooling rack.
Heat a small pot on the stove and allow butter to melt.
Once your butter is completely melted add in the milk and vanilla essence, whilst whisking add in the icing sugar and bring mixture to boil whilst continuously whisking mixture.
Remove from heat.
Once donuts are cooled down pour glaze over the donuts.
Allow to rest/cool for 20 minutes before serving.
Serve and Enjoy!
