Camping Adventure at Home

By Busy Kiddo    Posted on Nov 9, 2020

I have just the adventure for the whole family in the comfort of your own home environment, no need to pack the car and travel a long distance! The Festive season holidays are approaching us and with this Pandemic still doing its rounds, we still have to try and stay at home for the benefits of our own well being and health, so, why not go camping in your garden or if the weather is not good, the living area will do just fine!

Throughout this camping adventure, there are some awesome activities for the whole family to do and make. I have some games for you and a whole lot more!

For our first activity, we will be making our own homemade tent, if you have a tent, you can use that too!

Grab some blankets, chairs, pillows, sheets, clotheslines, branches, anything that you think will help build your homemade tent, this is going to be so much fun! You can use an outdoor table to hang the blanket over to make the blanket form a 'roof' for the tent to avoid it falling down. This is the part where you can use your imagination and creativity skills, there is absolutely no limit, go wild!

Activities such as this can be beneficial to teach children construction skills and setting goals and working towards them (wanting to build a 'tent' and working their way to doing that).

For our second activity;

Homemade Binoculars

What you will need:

  • 2 x empty toilet rolls
  • Glue
  • Leaves
  • Scissors
  • String

How to make:

  • Take the 2 x toilet rolls and stick them together forming 2 circles to see through
  • Wait a few minutes for the glue to dry a little so that it doesn't fall apart for the next step
  • Once the glue has dried enough to keep the toilet rolls together, go wild and add some more glue on the toilet rolls and stick the leaves on
  • Let this dry properly and then get mom or dad to help you make 2 holes on either side to attach the string.
  • Hang the binoculars around your neck and get ready to explore!

Now, let's go and explore with our new awesome binoculars!

Using your binoculars that you just made, start exploring all of nature's life around you, plants, flowers, insects, birds, you name it! If you would like to use a magnifying glass to explore, a little deeper, go ahead! Moms and Dads, let's make this some fun learning too, grab age-appropriate books to learn a little bit more about the children's discoveries while they were exploring the garden! You never know, you could learn a thing or two too!

Make a Nature Collage Frame

Grab a basket or a bucket and go around the garden collecting flowers that have fallen on the ground (avoid picking any fresh flowers or plants). Fallen leaves and any other interesting things that you find around the garden.

What you will need:

  • Cardboard
  • Glue
  • Your collected items from the garden

How to make:

  • Take the piece of cardboard and put some glue on the edges, allow a space in the middle for a photo from your camping adventure, start sticking all of your collected goodies.
  • The best part for last for this activity, take a selfie for your awesome homemade nature frame!

Treasure Hunt Time

Who doesn't love a treasure hunt?

This one is going to be a little different; you are going to go on a hunt to collect food items needed for the delicious Burgers that you and the family are going to make later on in your adventure

Heres is your Treasure Hunt list: (right-click on the image to save it and print it out)

Add whatever other ingredients you love to add to your burgers!

This is going to be a fun activity for you and the family, enjoy making your burgers and the super fun part is that the patties are made by you!

  • Roll the minced meat into balls and flatten them to make a yummy burger patty.
  • You can add bread crumbs, an egg and spices of your choice for some extra flavour, the egg and bread crumbs bind the ingredients together.

Lastly to end off our fun activities; SMORES!

What you will need:

  • Your favourite biscuits/crackers
  • A pack of marshmallows
  • Skewer sticks
  • Jar of chocolate spread

How to make:

  • Put one or more marshmallows on the skewer stick and 'toast' it over the fire flames until golden brown
  • Spread some chocolate spread on the biscuits and place the toasted marshmallow/s between the two biscuits
  • ENJOY!

I hope this fun family adventure is nothing less than AWESOME!

Until next time,
